Roll On Rock® Vinyl Chip Epoxy Coating
|
|
The Roll On Rock® System 1 is a very easy to install Epoxy full broadcast flake coating system. System 1 uses a waterbased epoxy primer and waterbased epoxy body coat to receive the chips. You can choose from a faster setting epoxy 4010 Waterbased Epoxy or a slower more forgiving epoxy that has a longer potlife, 4020 Waterbased Epoxy to throw your chip into. When used with the 5400 Waterbased Urethane Topcoat it becomes a breathable system that is able to breathe out moisture. Another big plus for this combination is that the entire system has very low odor and is non flammable making it the system of choice for inexperienced entry level applicators or for sensitive areas where odor may be an issue. System 1 has all the same topcoat options as the other Roll On Rock™ Systems. A typical installation would be to prime and then an hour later roll on the body coat and throw the flakes to rejection (about 55lbs of flake for a 2 car garage) within 10 to 20 minutes of applying the bodycoat. Then come back the next day to scrape the loose flakes off (if you save then you can use them on the next job) and then apply the clear topcoat. One coat is what most installer do but about 30% of them install 2 coats to get a higher build. VBP offers 4 different Topcoats to choose from, 3 of them are below 10 VOC and 2 of them are Low Odor and Non-Flammable. All of these topcoats will not yellow, are hot tire resistant and extremely abrasion resistant. These ultra low VOC topcoat help provide a solution for areas that are environmentaly conscious (reduce the effect on Global Warming) as well as areas that can not allow a solvent based system . All of these systems are also compliant with the new strict SCAQMD rules that become law July 2006. See the chart below for the pros and cons for each system. This range of floor coatings designed specifically for the garage floor is just one more reason why VBP is the leader in the garage floor and industrial coating industry.

HOT TIP.....
Use PolyUrea 5000 as the one coat Topcoat on the Garage Floor that gives the look and feel of 2 coats of CRU. 5000 is shinier and just as hot tire resistant as the CRU but will save you a trip to the jobsite, plus it is Non-Flammable and does not stink!
Or try the very popular Polyurea 5073, its claim to fame is the extra long potlife, great viscosity and the best part is you can walk on the Garage Floor in a little over 2 hours!
GARAGE FLOOR COATING EXTREME HOT WEATHER TIP....
Use the waterbased epoxy 4020 series with 5400 waterbased CRU topcoat (system 1). You will not get solvent blisters associated with solventborne CRU's and you will have longer pot life with the 4020 epoxy over the 4010.

Pros and Cons, Which System is Right for Me?
The 4 Standard Roll On Rock® Systems Offered by Versatile Building Products, Inc.
All 3 systems perform well and offer the same appearance when completed. The main difference is the amount of MVE transmission (moisture vapor emissions)that they can withstand before blowing off the surface and the ease of application and coats required. Use the data below to make a decision on what works best for your project. Then review the installation guides to be familiar with how they are applied.
